The redevelopment of a Grade II Listed hospital building (former workhouse) and the surrounding land to form a mixture of houses and apartments. Under the Code for Sustainable Homes, all the houses are required to be Code 4 or 5.
Set on the edge of town this site has particular level and access difficulties. A series of external spaces are framed by housing in a traditional manner picking up on the local vernacular.
Using the lake as a focal point the masterplan minimises roads and maximises pedestrian movement through the development. Designed in conjunction with fellow architect Peter Sandover, terraced houses reflect the local context.
